“Suchir Jonno AALO” appears in a different light altogether, evident in the absence of inane transactions inherent in any show and in a concern for the overwhelming priority of life over everything else.

Shamim Sharmin Shuchi is a meritorious student afflicted with cancer. This exhibition was dedicated to shuchi, is not meant solely to be a presentation of significant art but a manifestation of a person’s resolute will to continue with life without which of course, much of art would lose significance. The concern for life refuses to rest here; especially in the face of uncounted deaths caused daily by strife, malnutrition, lack of medical care- facts which entwine us with the twisted irony of whether art survives for art’s sake or art is for life. Putting aside contentions, let us take a breather and try to preserve life.

Architect Enamul Karim Nirjhar is a caring artist- he seems driven by a soulful longing, often captured in his skills. His photographs stand testimony to his fine ability to read life in light, in the absence of light and in dramatic color. A befitting tribute to shuchi- who, we hope, will make a comeback to the many hues of life while we keep the lamp a lit.
